Gas & Electricity
The UK energy supply business is highly competitive and there are many gas and electricity suppliers to choose from. Different energy suppliers have their own prices and may be cheaper than your existing supplier, depending on various criteria such as where you live and how much energy you use. Some suppliers may also offer extra savings if you choose to purchase both gas and electricity from the same company - often referred to as "dual fuel" discounts.
If you are thinking about switching to a different gas or electricity supplier, the first thing to do is find out which is the cheapest supplier in your area. If you wish to change, you then need to apply to the new supplier and they will arrange for the transfer, which usually takes around 4 to 6 weeks.
An important point that often worries people is about the existing pipes and wiring into your home. If you decide to switch suppliers, the delivery into your property is not changed at all, so there is no physical change either to the gas supply pipe or the electrical connection. Neither is there any disruption of supply during the changeover period, nor any cost for the transfer. The only difference is that you will receive invoices for supplies of gas and/or electricity from a different company.
It is easy to shop around for the best deal. As well as getting quotes from individual gas and electricity suppliers, there are also specialist services that allow you to compare prices and will help you make the application as well.
