Aberdeen and Skegness benefit from holiday fever

Holiday fever strikes again on this month's Moving Location Index of preferred places for buying a home. Aberdeen and Skegness are clear favourites, with all the top five being well known coastal resorts. Newquay features one more time, with Cornwall grabbing six of the top fifty places, not counting the Isles of Scilly. A total of 27 towns and cities in the top 50 are coastal locations.

It's good to see "Sunny" South Shields up at No.34, with its wicked reputation for nightlife dating back to AD129 when Romans built the Arbeia Fort at the mouth of the river Tyne, on the eastern end of Hadrian's Wall and a likely base for the British fleet at the time. Barrow-in-Furness (No.29) also has a strong navy connection, having built nuclear submarines for the Royal Navy, followed by Portsmouth (No.30) with its Naval Base and Historic Dockyard, where you can visit King Henry VIII's warship Mary Rose, as well as HMS Warrior and HMS Victory, one of the UK's top tourist attractions. Remarkably, the next town on the list is Helston in Cornwall (No.31), which is home to the Royal Naval Air Station at Culdrose, whose duties include military and civilian search and rescue for the South West region.
