First Time Buyers face competition from divorcees

Home owning couples who split up and sell, then each buy a smaller property for themselves, are making life difficult for first time buyers by providing more competition at the bottom end of the market.

The Office of National Statistics reports that the number of households with only one occupant has risen to 29%, an increase of 2% since 1991.
