The Chartered Institute of Housing (CIH) welcomed Gordon Brown's Pre Budget Report announcements on housing and climate change.
Sarah Webb, CIH Director of Policy and Practice, said: "I know 'green' pressure groups are disappointed with the report, but from a housing perspective, yesterday's announcements are an important first step. Our housing stock contributes more than a quarter of current CO2 emissions, so we have to start taking action now. There is some great stuff going on already, like Black Country Housing's fuel cell projects and the Sandwell Solar City initiative, but we need to co-ordinate our response to avoid all re-inventing the eco-home of the future."
CIH is already working on a range of climate change projects and has invited key stakeholders across the sector to a meeting in January to pull together all the current 'green thinking' in housing.
